San Mateo Together is Proud of What San Mateo Has Accomplished …
New Main Library-San Mateo has built a state-of-the-art public library, a treasure for all its residents, young and old, and another gem in our vibrant and booming downtown. More than 3,000 visitors a day use the new library. A true environmental model in technology and efficiency, the new library utilizes sustainable or “green” technology and is the largest “green” library in Northern California. Its innovative design and technology have received numerous awards.
New Police Station-Construction is underway on San Mateo's new state-of-the-art police headquarters near Hillsdale Boulevard, where our law enforcement men and women will be able to serve the community even more effectively in fighting crime and responding to emergencies. Our elected officials have continuously supported improving public safety with particular emphasis on hiring the most highly qualified police officers and providing them with the most advanced technology and training to keep our community safe.
Sustainability Task Force-San Mateo is one of the first cities in the county to institute a Sustainability Task Force to develop recommendations targeted at reducing the City's carbon footprint, promoting sustainable living and fighting global warming. Our city is working to develop and recommend new policies, practices and programs we all can support that will be environmentally conscious and help to make San Mateo a “green” example for other public agencies and for our residents and future residents.
